Student Support And Residential Life

UWS Residential Colleges aims to provide a healthy living and learning environment for all of our residents.

BE PART OF A COMMUNITY
Students living in our Residential Colleges live in a large tight-knit community. You will have a large group of people surrounding you from both similar and diverse backgrounds and you will make friends that will keep in touch with you for many years. You will have the opportunity to grow as a person as your ideas and thoughts on subjects will be challenged by your peers and you will have the opportunity to learn a great deal about yourself and your values and to develop your character.

Emphasis is placed on creating a friendly, living and study environment that will assist residents to adapt quickly to being away from home as well as encouraging them to make new friends and to make the most of their study capabilities.

We offer a wide variety of on-campus sporting, cultural and social activities which are organised by our team of Residents Assistants.

LEADERSHIP ROLES
You will have the opportunity to apply for leadership positions within the community, such as a the Role of Resident Assistant. This will assist you as you can learn and develop new skills that you can take with you wherever you go.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Living on residence gives you greater access to formal and informal academic assistance. Not only will you have access to one-to-one online tutoring in first year science and maths subject areas as well as general english essentials such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, essay and report writing and assignment research; you will also be able to access students in your classes and students in you course who have completed those classes the year before

ENHANCED CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Living in the Residential Colleges presents community members the opportunity to often make lasting friendships that evolve into a network of future professional clients and contacts.

INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Not only does living on campus provide you with a better living and study environment, but you can also become more active on campus by joining different groups associated with the residential colleges and the university, or develop your own interest group in respect to gardening, recycling, etc

LIFE SKILLS PROGRAMS
Residential Colleges provide a Living-Learning environment for students. These living environments are designed to foster academic as well as personal success and growth. Throughout the academic year various programs and workshops are conducted to facilitate community as well as personal development. In addition, you will enjoy the social, cultural, sporting and developmental programs brought to you by the staff and RA Team.

ENJOY CAMPUS LIFE
Studies have shown that Residential College students report higher satisfaction with their college experience. It's not surprising because it's so easy to participate in campus life as well as easily accessing all services/facilities.

MEET NEW FRIENDS
Live and make friends with friendly, intelligent people pursuing both academic and personal growth. Living in the Residential Colleges is like living in a close-knit family community.

ACQUIRE INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
As a college graduate you will probably be a supervisor and a leader of others. Learning how to communicate, understand and motivate others from diverse backgrounds is important. Residing on campus and getting involved in your residential community will provide you the opportunities to enhance and/or develop your interpersonal skills.

SAFETY AND SECURITY
All of our Residential Colleges are located on our campuses which are patrolled 24 hours/day seven day/week. Management also encourages ‘neighbourhood watch' type community involvement which offers peace of mind.
