Testimonials

I have recently completed a Bachelor of Science (Forensic Science) at University of Western Sydney, for the duration of my course I have lived in residents at UWS Hawkesbury Campus. Looking back I am so thankful I made the decision to become part of Hawkesbury’s residential body, a part of a campus so drenched in history, culture and camaraderie. Hawkesbury has provided me with unwavering support both in and out of the class room, it has presented a rare opportunity to meet, mingle, live and work with a diverse array of characters from all walks of life and most importantly it has opened doors to so many different avenues both professionally and socially that I would have other wised missed. If you are on the fence about moving to Hawkesbury, take my advice and take the plunge, you learn and discover more about yourself, others and life in general living here for three years than you do the first eighteen years of your life. As cliché as it sounds, Hawkesbury really is the time of your life.

Jessica Parker – Australian student from Newcastle

With environs lush and lavish as well as heritage, it was a great experience to have resided and studied at the Hawkesbury Residential College, Richmond Campus (UWS). Here, one may find all types of people for backgrounds and ethnicities beyond – a multicultural and diverse setting – for all to experience, learn from and appreciate. I was personally privileged to have become a Resident Assistant on campus which further allowed me to interact, integrate and interconnect with several international and local students thus giving me holistic experience, not to mention a few shenanigans without which a campus would not be a campus. One must definitely experience campus life especially at the Hawkesbury Residential College, Richmond (UWS) – and here, I shall quote from a close friend – it is a ‘home away from home’.

Hawkesbury Residential College has been my home for the past 2 years and it has been a unique experience. Benefits include walking distance to classes, a variety of social activities, meeting new friends and gaining social and academic networks. It has a great community atmosphere which makes you feel right at home. It is like my very own little neighbourhood. Definitely an enjoyable place to stay.

Arniza Khairani - International student from Malaysia - Bachelor of Forensics Science

I have been a resident of Hawkesbury Residential College for the past four years. I moved onto residence when I was just 17 years old. As soon as I moved into College it felt like a joined another family. No matter whether you are quiet or loud, everyone is made welcome at Hawkesbury. Throughout the past four years, I have made friends that I can say I will still be in touch with even after the completion of my course. The atmosphere is breath taking, our own bar only some 200 metres from residence, Olympic size swimming pool, gymnasium, tennis courts and our own basketball stadium. There is an event going on in College or campus almost every day, from our renowned “Bar Nights” to our spontaneous “get togethers”.

We can party but we also have a good academic culture with high performing residents. Whatever you are into, Hawkesbury has got it. So come join in the 116 years of rich traditions and become part of this extended family.

Reserving your Accommodation

Students are advised to apply for accommodation early as places are limited. When you accept the offer of a place in the University, complete the Online Accommodation Application Form and pay the room application fee of AUD$110 (This is normally non-refundable - for more information, please see Refund Policy).

Alternately you may wish to fill out a 'hard' copy of the Accommodation Application Form (PDF, 164 Kb) and return it to UWS with the room application fee of AUD$110. The room application fee may be paid by bank draft made out to the University of Western Sydney or online. Please refer to the application form for more details.

The central office of the UWS Residential Colleges will confirm the receipt of your application and forward your application to the relevant campus where you are seeking accommodation.

The residential college at the relevant campus will send you an 'Offer of Placement' (subject to availability). When you receive this offer, you will need to complete and return the acceptance form together with a payment of $900. This payment can be in the form of a bank draft, credit card or online (please refer to instructions with offer). An amount of $500 will be transferred into your Security Deposit account and the balance of $400 will be credited towards your accommodation fee and Social Club membership (for on-campus residents). You must return the acceptance form within six weeks of the offer mailing date (and prior to the cut-off dates mentioned below) to accept your offer of accommodation.

Students who live on-campus in the residential colleges are required to become members of the Social Club. A membership fee of $100 per year applies (based on 2009 fees). This fee is used by the Social Club to host social, cultural and sporting events.

All acceptances (including payment) must be received by UWS Residential Colleges before the cut-off dates as is indicated in your "Offer of Placement". Once the Residential College receives this deposit, you will receive a 'letter of confirmation' from the relevant residential college confirming your accommodation.

Failure to return the acceptance form by the cut-off date will result in the residential college allocating your room to another student.

Please Note:

All students applying for a place in any of the UWS Residential Colleges will be required to sign an Academic Year Residential Contract, commencing on 2 February 2009 and ending on 7 December 2009. (Students who are at UWS for only one session i.e. either the Autumn or Spring Session, will need to contact the residential colleges office to make special arrangements).

All students applying for a place in any of the residential colleges will have the option of paying their entire residential fees (for the Academic Year contract) 'up-front' or, if they choose to pay in installments, they will be required to enter into a fortnightly Direct Debit system of payment and sign a consent form. (All students who are at UWS for less than the academic year will be required to pay their residential fees up-front). Applications not completed correctly or those which do not have the accommodation application fee enclosed will not be processed.

Please refer to the Accommodation Application form (see Related Documents below) for more details about how and when to apply and how payments are to be made.
